were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.”

LIFE – SANCTITY OF HUMAN LIFE

Mon Jan 16th – Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Sun   Jan 22nd – 50th Anniversary of Roe vs Wade

Martin Luther King’s niece, Alveda King -
“The only other class of people who were treated as poorly as babies in the
womb in modern history was slaves.”

Prov 24:11 “Deliver those who are being taken away to death, and those who are
staggering to the slaughter, O hold them back.”
24:12 “If you say, ‘ See, we did not know this’,  does He not consider it who
weighs the hearts? And does He not know it who keeps your soul?
And will He not render to man according to his work?”

Genesis – God’s creation of lifelong, monogamous marriage
(through which all humanity was to be extended – “fruitful & multiply”)
                - God defining marriage & family
(long before government’s attempts to redefine)

Christianity – confronting the culture Rome & expressing the Kingdom of God
distinctively valued babies, children, women, slaves & one another
. babies, rejected abortion & rescued babies being exposed
. children, valued as the heritage of the Lord & Jesus’ priority
. women, taught men to love their wives as Christ loves His church
. slaves, saw as fellow human beings & brothers in Christ -Philemon
. each other, connected in community, love for one another

World – a dangerous place for the vulnerable & devalued
             - a discriminating place against others considered of less value

Kingdom – value & dignity of all human life
                  - caring for those unable to care for themselves
                  - seeing everyone as God does, as “image-bearers”

Gen 1:27 “God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created
him; male and female He created them.”
                 - every human life, regardless of development, age, or social acceptance
                 - every human life bears the image of our Creator & loving God

Gen 9:6   “Whoever sheds man’s blood, by man his blood shall be shed, for in the
image of God He made man.”
                  - attack on any person is an attack on God
                  - because man is created in the image of God, the crime is an assault
                     against God
                  - all human life is sacred & redeemable

Redemption – a restoration of the image of God in sinners in whom the image of
                          God has been marred
                        - the renewal of God’s image in sinful mankind through the gospel
                        - the gospel (received) renews the image that was marred by both
Adam’s sin & our own so that every believer may
“bear the image of the heavenly”       – 1 Cor 15:49 &
“conformed to the image of His Son” – Rom 8:29

Kingdom – process of the restoration of the image of God that continues
throughout the believer’s life on earth
                 - restoration of the image of God that reflects His holy character
especially in knowledge, righteousness & holiness

Col 3:10 “and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge
according to the image of the One who created him.”
                  - in God’s kingdom, He is renewing His image within us in the true
knowledge of He who is eternal life (John 17:3)

Eph 4:24 “and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created
in righteousness and holiness of the truth.”
                 - in God’s kingdom, He is restoring His image within us that reflects
                   God’s moral excellence – righteousness & holiness

Image-bearers – redeemed by our Creator’s love to be renewed & restored to His
image and reflect He and His kingdom
