CALLED TO BE CHRIST-LIKE
Jesus sums up the core purpose for all believers in John 15:16 “You did not choose Me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain…” Our purpose is simply to bear fruit that remains. Most Christians think that bearing fruit means to bring souls to Christ. Yes, but much more. The fruit that Jesus is talking about is Christ-likeness.
Christ-likeness means reflecting the likeness of Jesus, and bearing fruit that remains means growing more and more into Jesus’ likeness. It should be the center of all of our activities, our lifestyle and our relationships. If we are not becoming noticeably more like Christ, then we have totally missed God’s purpose for our lives.
Christ-likeness will never be realized by what we do for Christ. Christ-likeness can’t be measured by what we achieve for Christ. Christ-likeness can only be realized in us by what we are becoming in Christ. Christ-likeness is about how we are being transformed into Christ’s likeness.
