From the Pastor:
WHO LOVE IS
One of the most profound yet inexhaustible revelations in the Bible is found in 1 John 4:8 & 16 in three words – “God is love”. That is who God is. He is love. We think of love in terms of the verb, as how we see and feel love expressed, but here love is a noun. That noun is God. He is love.
If we equate “is” to mean equals, then the equation of God = love is expanded in 1 Cor 13:4 – 7 to designate Who God is and Who God is not. These attributes describe Who God/Love is and Who God/Love is not. If we continue to grow in the understanding of the Who, the noun of Love, then the verb of love seems to be more authentic.
If we recognize the “is” with Jesus, that “He is…the exact representation of His (God’s) nature…” Heb 1:3, then we recognize that Jesus is the perfect expression of Love Himself. That representation was never of Jesus’ own initiative or will – John 5:30. That expression was never self-exalting – Phil 2:5-8. If we continue to grow in the understanding of the Who, the noun of Love, then the verb of love will be the authentic of – Phil 2:3 “Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit…” & Phil 2:4 “do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others…”
Who Love is = who we are becoming. “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and every one who loves is born of God and knows God.” 1 John 4:7
